Candidate for Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education, District 3
Carrie Coppernoll Jacobs is a mother and writer who has lived in District 3 of Oklahoma City Public Schools for the past 17 years.
She serves as chairperson of the Policy Committee and Operations Committee. She co-chairs the Bond Committee, and also serves on the Bond Oversight & Planning Committee. In the past, she has served as vice chairwoman of the Board of Education. Since 2016, her work has centered around these core goals:
She ran for the Board of Education because she wants to see Oklahoma City Public Schools keep pace with the exciting progress happening in Oklahoma City. The city is at a crossroads with public education, and residents are ready to ensure our schools are as great as our flourishing community. All children are our children, and they deserve our very best. Carrie worked as a reporter and columnist in Oklahoma City for nine years, spending the last part of her tenure at The Oklahoman as the education beat reporter. She covered Oklahoma City Public Schools, the state Education Department and education trends. She earned her alternative certification to teach high school journalism and English, and worked for two years as the journalism teacher at Putnam City North High School. She now works as a member of the communications team for the Oklahoma Education Association. Carrie and has two daughters who attend Kaiser Elementary and Classen School of Advanced Studies Middle School. |
